Description

83 SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS FROM DR. ROBERT R. LINTON M.D. 85 BERKELEY ST. WEST NEWTON , MASS GOOGLE SEARCH: Robert Linton was the first president of the New England Society for Vascular Surgery and the first vascular surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). During his career of more than 4 decades, he evaluated, refined, and perfected a variety of surgical approaches to venous and arterial disease that helped to define the specialty of vascular surgery as it is known today. In the early 1950s vascular surgery was performed with general surgical instruments, which were often too large or not well suited to handle blood vessels. Linton was a firm believer in "the right tool for the job" . With the aid of a German instrument maker from Codman Shurtleff Company he designed or modified many instruments for vascular surgery. For example, he modified the Bethune bronchial clamp to become an adjustable aortic tourniquet, an instrument which now bears his name. Each June, at the time that his fellows would change, one or two of these clamps would mysteriously disappear from his instrument trays.…Linton personalized his instruments by having the handles gold plated, antedating by several years the same practice by commercial instrument manufacturers. The gold plating became one of his trademarks, and the source of some practical jokes. ALL THE INSTRUMENTS SHOW WEAR FROM USE, LOOK AT THE PHOTOS TO SEE WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING, SOME OF THE TOOLS ARE MARKED - CODMAN , SHURTLEFF ALSO INCLUDED IS THE INK STAMP WITH HIS ADDRESS, HE MIGHT HAVE HAD AN OFFICE THERE SOME OF THE INSTRUMENTS ARE ENGRAVED WITH HIS INITIALS R.R.
